I've been encouraging our First Nations Peoples for decades, because our
ancestors were dehumanized by demonizing European colonial propaganda, that
depicted them to be mindless bloodthirsty savages, to become more forceful
in demanding that American and Canadian governments change school curricula
to reflect the truth about our great civilizations. That the need for such
is great, in order erase the systemic racism created by the propaganda, is
no better articulated than by the following comment placed on the rename
Cornwallis Petition by an Ontario Loyalist - it displays vividly the depth
of ignorance that we have to overcome:

August 28, 2009 - No. 2152 - Ontario Loyalist: "We need to honour and
preserve our British heritage--it is why this country is so great. One thing
that needs to be kept in mind is that the British reaction to the Indians is
based on hostility displayed by the Indians towards Europeans since the very
beginning. Scalping is something that Indian peoples practiced long before
Europeans came to explore and civilize this continent."
